Site Based Council

Sullivant worked during the 2016-2017 academic year to further build our Site Based Council.  This team is used to guide and collaborate on issues that impact our students and the surrounding community.  We have joined forces with our Columbus State Community College partners who provide after school tutoring for many of our ELL students.  Joint Advisory Meetings were held quarterly to discuss the student, school and community's, progress and needs.   Also serving on the Council are local law enforcement officers and Southpark Apartment mnagement members.  We look forward to continuing the growth of our Site Based Council during the 2017-2018 school year and are excited to see how we can best serve our building, students and community.

Academic Brief

At Sullivant we focus our  instruction on improving student achievement, while meeting the various learning styles of our students. Teachers follow the district's curriculum which is based on State Academic Content areas.  We utilize data and formative assessments to monitor student progress and provide ongoing intervention to support academic needs.  Second Step Violence Prevention curriculum is taught weekly in every classroom, which helps to build a positive classroom environment where students learn to get along and be respectful to each other.

Sullivant is  home to the Columbus REACH Autism Program. The mission of Columbus REACH is to provide the children and families affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) living in the Columbus City School district, with a comprehensive instructional program based on best practices for students with autism. Educational environments at Columbus REACH are designed to foster optimal growth across all domains by capitalizing on students' strengths while supporting the unique learning and behavior challenges faced by individuals with ASD.

Academic Support

READING PROGRAM: Literacy Collaborative is implemented in the classrooms, and students receive 120 minutes of Reading instruction daily. Our students have the opportunity to participate in CAP CITY KIDS, as part of  the Mayor's  after-school learning/tutoring program.  It is open  daily from 3:40 pm – 6:00 pm.   Franklinton Area Tutoring, Community for New Directions, and Intervention tutors/aides further support our students' academic progress.  Sullivant Elementary also partners with Columbus State Community College to provide after school tutoring and programing for our ELL students at Southpark Apartments.

Clubs

Clubs and groups are available to students as established by our school counselor and the classroom teachers.

Community Partnerships

We are pleased to have community partnerships with Franklinton Area Tutoring, Community for New Directions, Capital Kids, St. Vincent's, our "Sullivant Godfathers" and Columbus State Community College.

Our curricular areas consist of reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, health, art, vocal/instrumental music, and physical education. All students use computer technology. Classrooms utilize our computer lab, setting up a weekly time to attend, chromebooks,  and the computers in each classroom.

Appropriate dress is important so that we may support an attitude that is positive for learning. We will be following the Dress Code established by the Board of Education. Please see the District policy for more information.

Vision Statement

The Sullivant Community believes that all children can learn and experience success at school. It is our responsibility to facilitate that lifelong learning through challenging, positive and appropriate learning opportunities. When parents and community members join together, student learning and achievement are enhanced.  It is expected that all students show a year's worth of learning for a year's worth of teaching.
